The Rarity of Red Beach Glass

RED: 1 in 5,000
What is so special about red beach glass? Red glass was not mass produced in the US due to the expense needed to create the pigment. The metal that helps create the color in the glass was actually made from gold!

You can see the ridges on the back side of this red beach glass which leads us to believe it’s a piece off a car tail light or boat signal light that were made of glass prior to 1950. Since then glass lights have been replaced with plastic. These are all reasons for its rarity.

So look at your red beach glass closely for ridges- you may have a piece of a vintage car or boat.
